No, no, there are only two bumpers (one front, one rear) but there is a
fender (mudguard, I believe you call it - it's been a long time since I read
my Lotus manual) at each corner, one over each of the wheels (we can ignore
those odd three wheelers). Let's see, some other terms that I can remember
are: boot, windscreen, demister, bonnet, fascia. You guys sure talk funny
;-)

The proper procedure is to degrease the steel, then acid dip in a mix of
hydrochloric and sulfuric to prepare for immediate electroplating. Screw up
either step and you will get a deposit that doesn't stick, but there is
absolutely no excuse for sloppy work that causes the deposit to lift from
the substrate. No excuse. Ever.

I'd REALLY not want to have to replace that tube!

Best regards,

Rob

Hi! Rob.
Simple answer is it peels wait and see! Better ask Europa why! Probably
inadequate degreasing prior to electrolysis? Yes, we call them bumpers but
you should call them "fenders"!

Why do you expect the Ni to peel? Even relatively primitive Ni plating
processes (Model A Ford bright metal parts for example) yield a deposit that
lasts a long time without peeling. Are you thinking of Cr which is so
highly stressed, and porous, that it peels after a few years (like just
about any car bumper - sorry, I forget what you call them over there - made
in USA in the '50s), especially if anywhere near the ocean?

Hi! Rob.
You are quite right, but the nickle plate is soon going to start to peel off
anyway !!!!
Never the less it is best to really clean the inside of the relevant bushes
with light emery cloth ,then apply a very light oil film to the TP 4 Tube.

Careful folks, the torque tube is nickel plated 4130 steel and if you get
too aggressive with the "polishing" the underlying steel will be exposed.
