I don't know the official answer to that, Fred, but I suspect the five year
limit is because it is not possible to inspect the inside of a rubber hose.
Of course, you can inspect the outer sheath for enbrittlement and cracking.
If I had a teflon lined hose I would be inclined to visually inspect it
rather than change every five years, but that is just my opinion.
