Guess I'm not describing it very well.
The half ball is glued to the centre of the bottom edge of the door. It fits
snugly into a hole in the door frame (ie the fuselage). Difference in
diameter is due to clearances involved.
Any clearer?

I'm like Chuck - can't visualise the principle. If there's a xx
millimetre hole in the bottom centre of the door, how does a half 18mm ball
fit into it? Or is there some physics Mr. Thompson didn't tell our class?
