That actually helps me understand it better, Bob.  16 ga. is .060" vs.
.063", though, but can be a bit softer.  Being unable to duplicate the
phenomenon by hanging from the end of big-ass pipe wrench, I was
having trouble picturing any reasonable cause.  But softer SS would
not have changed the results anywhere near the point of blaming forces
introduced by the control stick in normal flight.  Other explanations
are now plausible to me.
