Tom, We replaced the filler hoses in our demonstrators for that reason. ALL
the hoses bled fuel vapors. For the filler I used a red-stripe fuel line
used on fuel trucks. Got it at Amazon hose in Tampa, FL

I would suggest that smell originates from the hose from the tank to the
firewall rather than the filler hose.
