Perhaps I should have said that you should expect that the Rotax warranty could
be void if you used an oil filter that was not to the same spec as the one
supplied.
I am merely trying to point out that what may seem straightforward may
not be.

Keep in mind that if the spring punched through the end of an ACME Inc oil
filter
on your Jetta the worst that is likely to happen is a ruined engine (if that's
not enough). Over and out.

I assume the Magnuson-Moss warranty act doesn't apply to aircraft?? If
it did, Rotax would be obligated to supply oil filters at no cost if
using a non-OEM filter would void the warranty.

To wit: I can use any oil filter I like for my Jetta TDI. VW
cannot 'void' my warranty if I don't use the VW filter. I 'DO' use the
VW filter, as it's the highest quality and the price is reasonable, but
I don't 'have' to.

an automotive source. The internals may not be the same, specifically
the filter element may be smaller and the compression spring securing
internal components may be subject to wearing through the casing due to
vibration. There is a Rotax Service Bulletin about this problem. 16
