Filter cleaning

There have been several references recently to spilling fuel in the cockpit
while cleaning fuel filters mounted under the seat. Having just completed
this task, I feel the problem may be overstated.

In practice, with the plane dismantled and on the trailer, remove a wing from
the trailer and place it in a holder temporarily. Remove the pillows and
their foam supports. Filter access is then easy by simply leaning in the door.

Put a pad of newspapers under the filter area and also a small bowl about 7
inch diameter and 1 inch deep. Turn the fuel valve to OFF. Clamp both lines
to the filter with locking pliers. Remove the filter and replace after
cleaning. A few tablespoons of fuel will wind up in the bowl and needs to be
disposed of along with the remainder of the fuel within the filter (not back
into the tank because it may be contaminated). The pad beneath the bowl was
not really needed but is a good safeguard.

Much easier and tidier than many maintenance tasks, mainly due to ease of
access.
