Oooh.  I have respect for people at the factory, but here's a
conservative view.  Lots of RTV can deny adequate inspection, hiding a
pending failure.  I've even seen a throttle cable failure, in an OEM
version of a firewall pass-through, designed in a manner to deny
inspection. The dumb thing chewed through 2 layers of metal.

And there was recent accident in the UK, where a dislodged chunk of
high-temp RTV found its way into the hot parts of the cabin heat
system.  The fumes' effect on the pilot's eyes was the first step in
the chain of events.  The Materials Safety Data Sheet describes the
body's reaction to heating to just 300F, making flying rather
difficult.  Add what does 'carcinogenic' mean?

Sometimes the ways in which things can go wrong just ain't intuitive!
