Thanks Nigel.
I already had a try with another aerial to no avail, so I wil need to have a
try with another radio, which is bringing me back to say the Icom A 200
isn't fit for purpose!

I have the same arrangement and mine is OK.

I would go down the route suggested of temporarily substituting the radio
and then the aerial to isolate where the problem lies.
