Bill, Thanks. Yes maybe the balance arm sticking out below the wing acts
like an aileron spade does on an Aviat husky or Pitts. The arm is so little
area that the effect would be less.
       I think I'll proceed the way I described. Kevin

Right, less weight needed with a longer folcrum arm.  With the box in place
you can tell the arm length you must not exceed.  Also if you wafer the
weights a lot of lead ends up as shavings.  I did cut a piece off and
cutting lead is not easy.  Hack saw doesn't work.  Coarser teeth of a wood
saw works better though not well.  I needed most all of the weight given.  I
understand the weight size has changed over time with later kits.  I have
seen completed mass balance arms in varing shape and length.  Not knowing
the differing effect as the arm is meant to move out into the airflow, it
would be safer to stay close to the shape of the template in the manual..
