One disadvantage (suggested by Europa @ Lakeland) is crashworthiness. 
In production aircraft, I've seen bends and half-loops in the layout
that appear to be solely for this purpose.  Similarly, they can be
routed along structure that is more likely to maintain integrity. 
That may not as easy to predict with fiberglass, and is an engineering
issue anyway.  It is interesting to note that there have been two very
serious accidents in the U.S. (fuselage destroyed), neither of which
resulted in a fire (nor fatality).
