There have been many, many cases of metal gas tanks, placed in a plastic pickup
bed liner, then exploding when the fuel nozzle is touched to the metal rim of 
the
tank.  the combination of metal, plastic and vibration sets up a static
electricity charge.  Dozens of trucks are destroyed this way every year.  I have
an acquaintance who flies a kitfox who had this happen.  He was fortunate that
it
was a very small explosion.  The parallel to airplanes is obvious.
