Yes, such is the world sometimes!  I read your reply to mean that there is
no FAA requirement, but one may certainly wish to receive training (which,
as you explain, is difficult to get).


In Norway, we have the similar restriction - no commercial use and no
schooling in an amateur-built aircraft.  Therefore, if my license should
expire, I cannot do the skill test for license renewal in my own Europa.  I
must rent an airplane from a flying club.  In their wisdom (such as it may
be), our CAA do permit the mandatory
get-familiar-with-this-particular-aircraft training with a CFI in the
particular amateur-built aircraft.  But no paid or unpaid training for any
other purpose in any amateur-built aircraft.
