Greg,

For your second point, the uni goes over front, bottom and rear, and to the top
of both bulkheads. The rather cryptic description in fact says it should be 
BETWEEN
the the two sides and NOT lapping on to them.

As far as putting the large bid in in one piece, forget it. With a lot of force
you may be able to squeeze it all in but all you will get is a heavy ball of
resin rich fibre which contributes little strength. Start on one side, smooth
it out and then you will find the bid starts bunching up on the other side. Cut
in and take one or two triangles out. Make sure the ends overlap well and you
will have a neat and structurally sound lay-up with the fibres seated properly.

That said, it is still the most horrendous job of the build (so far..)
