One option would be to put a layer of microfiber fabric over your
carpet/rubber/etc.
as the final contact material with the wing. Microfiber is extremely soft
(it's what your eyeglass cleaning cloths are made of) but is very durable (it's
what a lot of furniture is covered with these days).
Because the fibers are microscopically thin, they're woven extremely close to
one
another so dirt and debris can't penetrate and brushes right off.
Opt for one of the thicker versions for durability's sake. It's available at any
fabric store in just about any color and is dirt cheap. Buy enough to replace
every year or so as the sun and weather will eventually get to it.
