We made the 4" holes big enough to get your arm through the hole up to
your elbow. If you do any work in there you will need to be able to do
this. So measure your arm for the aperture and add 1" to the diameter
for the flange.
We also used a different method for making these holes which we thought
was superior to the manual. Make a splash moulding on the inside of the
fuz where the hole will be using 4 layers of bid. Drill location holes
for cocktail sticks when dry and remove. Cut out the hatch actual size
(this is best done by drilling many tiny holes and then joining them up
to release the hatch). Clean up the hole to be circular, then dig out
the foam and fill with flox to get a hard and waterproof edge. Do the
same to the hatch. Glue the splash moulding in place using the cocktail
sticks for position. When dry cut out the hole big enough for your arm
to go through. Trial fit the hatch. It will probably be too small for
the hole so get it attached with screws as shown in the manual. Then get
the hatch and wrap cling film around it and screw it to the fuz. Back
fill the gap with filler of your choice, we used car body filler. When
dry remove cling film and sand everything to shape. Sand down the hatch
all round by a few mm for the paint. Makes superb fitting hatches.
As for the fin hole we made this per the instructions and it only serves
as an inspection hole. Haven't had to fiddle in the back yet so don't
know whether it would be better to fit a bigger hole.
