Fred,
For those not blessed with 4 foot long arms that are 2 inches in
diameter, I use the following:
I have a 4 inch hole (3 with flange) for the viewing hole to get to the
trim servo screws. and 6 inch (5.5 with flange, except where nutplates
are) for my arm to reach in and do the tail plane work. I have added
others for tail wheel aircraft and if you are in doubt about strength,
glass in a 1/2 inch rib and longeron to frame your 4 ply lay-up to
stiffen the fuselage around a 6 inch hole. A good rule of thumb is
position the holes so you do not cut into the redux joints, and if you
need three holes put one on the other side.

  All.

I note the plans calling for two 4" dia. access panels and one 2.5"
dia. viewing panel on the starboard side of the fin and tailcone. I
can't help but wonder about the adequacy of these and I seem to recall

  some discussion on this.

How about increasing that viewing panel to 4" in order to be able to
  replace the trim servo?

Does anyone wish they had added other panels due to maintenance, part
  replacement issues?

Assuming that the 4" size is a limitation due to structural
considerations, has anyone taken a leap of faith and made the holes
larger and added say 2 additional layers of bid to the flange
thickness?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions...

  Fred
