I made enquiries tonight for you about the Microair / XCOM Intercom
combination.
---From the man who designed the Microair :-
The Microair has a hot mike as do the ICOM A200 and King KY97 and others.
When the PTT is pressed, both mics can transmit.
There is no intercom mute / squelch available.
This method was used because it was a cheaper way of doing it and I
understand it was originally thought most pilots would be on their own
(gliding ops).
Definitely need an external intercom to overcome your problems and the XCOM
Intercom is recommended.
The XCOM Intercom has a second input for a second com, is voice activated,
has a music input and also works very well with UHF radios too.
