Folks,
keep the faith, i obtained design approval from the PFA for an
intercooler subject to tests after construction.
In addition to satisfying the rotax criteria for an intercooler ie. pressure
loss> 15hpa and a minimum flow rate of 300 cubic meters/hour, PFA require (a)
a maximum working pressure and suction the intercooler will carry in the
worst cases (b) a safety factor that need to be applied to to perform a
pressure test and finally the intercooler should be able to withstand twice
the maximum possible working pressure load.
I have consulted Nigel Beale( rotax agent) and commisioned the guys at
Docking to build and test it to the above criteria after which all the
documentation and test results will be handed to the PFA to get approval for
actual flying tests. The guys at Docking specialise in intercooling systems
notably for FI teams and other racing cars. Besides, the chief engineer Mel
is a pilot/PFA member so he knows where i'm coming from. Will keep you posted
on progress...its coming.

  Karim.
