This is very common on Rotax engines on microlights. Swaping the polarity
does cure that too! Why well god knows.

For no obvious reason my analogue tacho did exactly the same thing and
I tried the "standard" fix of reversing the polarity of the wires from
the pickup and the problem went away. I had even changed the tacho and
it made no difference. Black magic rules.
