Page 51 of the Rotax 912 UL installation manual shows graphs of the
output from the trigger coil which drives the tacho. You will see that as
well as the major power peaks there are some minor ones. It is my belief
that if the trigger coil gap is set incorrectly the instrument may pick up
the secondary peaks when the revs. and consequently voltage increase, giving
the sort of 'kicks' to which you refer. The gaps are specified on page 16 of
the Rotax SB- 912 026/E - 914 014/E.
