It is too late for both you and me so this message is for others
contemplating the same mod, but the correct way to install the conduit would
be through the wing ribs at the mid-point (from top to bottom). You
probably thought, as I erroneously did, that it would be best to follow the
factory's practice with the pitot tube's vinyl tubing being located along
the bottom. Wrong! Had I actually given it any thought at all I would have
realized that the safest place to weaken the ribs is at what the structural
engineers call the neutral axis (where there is neither tension nor
compression in the part) and this is approximately at the vertical center.

In re: threads. The rule of thumb is that engaging a minimum of three
threads provides structural integrity. Since you may need to adjust in
either direction, just start approximately at the middle of the total
threaded length.

Subject: xs wings questions

Hello the Oracle (again). A few question on my XS wings.

1). I have installed a 3/4 inch conduit in case I want to add lights at a
later date. I have routed it along the floor of the wing, adjacent to the
pitot tubes as I have seen that this has been done before in the archive.
After having done one wing, It struck me that this might be considered a mod
and should have pfa approval. (I always did do things backwards) is this the
case?

2). Installing the aileron pushrods, how much thread do I screw into the
ends before locking them up?

3). I noticed a reference to having to move the pivot bolt at a later stage
if the quick connect mating faces don't match up. Is there a way to avoid
this?

Any feedback welcome.

Thanks
