Ailerons & tailplanes

A couple of tips I have gleaned whilst working on my flying surfaces.
Probably been aired before but, heck, I am still only a novice at this game.

1). Shaping the tailplane tips. It states in the manual that the tip shape
is the same as the airfoil shape so rather than go to the trouble of making
a profile based on the measurements given, simply find the bit of the jig
block you will have to cut off to lay up the tips and saw a slice out at the
point where you have masked up. If you need a 'male' shape, trace the
inside of this onto carboard and cut out. Exactly the right shape.

2). Check the length of the foam bits BEFORE laying up the skins. My
ailerons were a full c.m. different in overall length, one 5 mm short one
5mm. too long. When I checked with the factory they told me that the blocks
are measured and cut by hand before the shape is cut out so I guess that
this is where the discrepancy arose. I was able to rectify the poblem by
caefully slicing off a 5mm. piece from the joint area of the longer core and
gluing it in between the shorter ones. I now have a pair of perfectly
matched ailerons.
