Rick:
I managed to do the same thing. I did not however do it too
bad. My fix was to take the hinge and mill the edge off some where it goes
into the flange cavity. The thing to watch out for however is to ensure
the placement of your rivets doesn't get too close to the edge of the
metal. Like 2 diameters or so AC 43-13 should have the reqirements.
If you haven't already drilled your hinges there is some degree of leeway for
adjusting the rivet spacing. If you have drilled already it may be less
agrivating to get another piece of hinge and not do the excavating. Just
make a good point of documenting what you do with dimensions in your
logbook whenever doing your own fixes.

Subject: Problem with aileron
flange
Folks,
I have just come to fitting the hinges to my second aileron and have
discovered that I have not made the flange deep enough! It is
about 3mm
out, which looks suspiciously like I forgot to take the cut-outs for
the
hinges into account when I was checking the depth during the
lay-up. Is
there any way I can avoid sanding off the existing glass, cutting the
foam
back a bit and laying in some new glass? All ideas greatfully
received.
