Not an easy question to answer. I already asked Andy at Kirbymoorside
& he couldn't give a simple response. He or someone else from the
factory may answer here too. Some people took so long to build their
Classic tail kit that Classic wings and/or fuselages were no longer
available when the time came. There are various things which identify
the XS, but to my mind the most significant from the builder's point
of view is the pre-moulded wing, and I tend to use that as a
yardstick in deciding whether to call any particular airframe Classic
or XS. The XS fuselage incorporates as standard the increased seat
space which was known as the LA mod on the Classic, and also has a
pre-moulded fin, rahter than the foam-cored fin of the Classic.
Several other variations exist such as Classic with XS engine cowl,
etc. As the factory ran out of Classic bits, they substituted XS
parts in later orders.

One difference is that I believe the US-supplied kits use a different
brand of epoxy resin. The US & UK offices have separate serial number
sequences, and the factory demonstrators have at least 2 other serial
sequences! Enough to keep a reggie-spotter busy for ages! The latest
UK serial I know of is 514, and the latest in USA is A228. Oh, I
nearly forgot - the ones in Argentina (3 so far) also have a separate
serial number sequence. You'd need to talk to the factory about
buying various packages from different offices; I think some people
have already done that when they moved country part-way through a
build.
