Having written the Europa Club Mod for the capacitance fuel gauge system I
confirmed with Francis Donaldson the PFA view on this. They recommend
having some form of backup system. Instead of the factory sight gauge
system you might like to consider any of the following:

1. Alternative sight glass mounted adjacent to the tank (this helps to
avoid the pitch errors with the factory system)
2. A second sender in the tank ( this enables you to see the levels both
sides of the saddle)
3. A fuel flow integrator (this gives fuel contents by knowing the initial
contents and subtracting off the fuel as it is used, used as a backup in
all large transport aircraft, incorporated in the RMI Engine uMonitor
system)
4. A mirror and backlight for the tank so that its contents can be viewed
directly before flight (updated during flight by assumed worse case fuel
flow)
