Just a thought - possibly the easiest way to fly three tracks at right
angles is by flying parallel to line features such as roads or canals - you
can usually see right angled intersections (near as dammit) somewhere on a
map.

I find <ftp://ftp.avnet.co.uk/pub/europa> works OK for me - but I use
a dedicated ftp tool, Fetch.

>however, i have an improved version for excel

I made a spreadsheet version of the formulae that appeared in Popular
Flying, expanding it to 4 tracks with 4 sets of derivations and
averaging of results, and even constructed a test data generator to
make sure I'd done it right.

However, I did wonder about how easy it might be to fly those tracks
exactly orthogonal to each other, and idly thought about the general
case of several non-orthogonal tracks, but without applying enough
mental effort to cause any output.

I later found that someone else had done a similar thing for the case
of flying 3 HEADINGS at right angles. That seemed at first sight
easier to do than fly tracks.

Then I came across Doug Gray's solution for the general case of any 3
headings/tracks. I have now lost his website address, but still have
his e-mail address, so will try to get in touch with him to see if he
will allow publishing his solution on the Europa ftp site or at least
provide a pointer to his website, where he had a nice description in
a .PDF file and a simple implementation in Excel.

Perhaps if you are willing we could put a copy of that on the ftp
site too (send a copy to me or listmaster John Cliff
<john@crixbinfield.freeserve.co.uk>. No point in re-inventing the
wheel, and we certainly want to impress the PFA with how switched-on
us Europa folk are ....
