Graham, I agree with you that one does occasionally become aware of the 
strobe when it is mounted on the top of the tail fin. Now that I am used to 
it I find it strangely reassuring as it reminds me that it is still working.

    If I were doing it again, I think that I would move it as far to the rear 
of the fin's top surface as possible, and this would probably eliminate the 
occasional flash in the glasses, because the front of the XS fin obstructs 
the line of sight.

    I have experienced no radio noise or any other problems with the flasher, 
and see no reason why anyone else should providing they take reasonable 
screening precautions. Incidentally, my power supply is screwed to the inside 
of the tailplane aerofoil profile. Fits quite nicely, and you can get at it 
through the rear inspection hatch if you should ever need to.

    I don't know how many candle power it is, but it gives one heck of a 
flash and I would not like to be without it.
