A suggested method of assewmbling teflon hinges is as follows:-

Persuade the teflon onto the wire, having cut the wire to length. Leave a
few inches of teflon unfilled with wire and cut a long taper on it roughly
an inch longer than the hinge. Maybe also split it.
Now push the tapered teflon into the hinge far enough that you can get hold
of the thin end. Now pull the whole lot through until the wired portion is
in the hinge. Cut off the taper.
