I have a set up (the standard set up) much the same as your proposal.
The rudder pedals don't get hot.
Anything in the tunnel behind the steel firewall gets really hot, unless you 
have
a monowheel with lots of default circulating cooling air. Accordingly, I have
a 'fireblanket' on the back side of the steel, which reduces temperatures in
the tunnel.
