Europa-List: rotax vacuum pump query

I disposed of my vacuum instruments before I got around to installing them, and
have also sold the vacuum pump before I ever installed it.

I have now got my engine out of the dark box where its been hiding and hung it
on the Europa (just for a trial fit to sort out wire and cable runs etc - havent
got the firewall sorted out yet). Now that I can get a good look at it, I see
theres a spacer plate on the vacuum pump pad - see pictures:

However, as you can see in the 2nd picture the nuts that hold it dont screw onto
the studs far enough to secure the spacer before they become threadbound, so
the spacer will be rattling around and the nuts wont be secured. So, what should
I do? Add another little piece of aluminium plate thick enough to allow the
nuts to be done up? Remove the spacer, nuts and spring washers leaving the studs
empty and the drive splines exposed (doesnt sound quite right!)?

It appears from the Rotax illustrated parts catalogue that there is a plug which
fits inside the gearbox aperture when the vacuum pump drive is not fitted, but
obviously Id have to do quite a bit of dismantling to use that.

in friendship
