Dear All,

Just a bit of info that aircraft owners should be aware of. In the UK last
weekend,
a glider was stolen from the gliding club at Dunstable airfield. The glider
in question was an EB28 which is a nearly new, large and very impressive
(and expensive) 2 seat "super ship" glider. The trailer was found dumped 7
miles
away and the front cockpit and engine bay had literally been sawn off and
removed.

Some pictures can be found here:

It is presumed that this was done to get the engine and associated instruments
and I've heard of some similar stories with power aircraft. I've also heard
that
in Germany, approximately 60 Rotax engines have been stolen from turbo and
motor gliders in the last year.
It looks like there is now a market for stolen engines, one where serial numbers
and honest inspectors will not be an issue. The common belief is that they
are going East to be put into microlights.

So, wherever you keep you aircraft just beware, this seems to be a growing
problem
that has now found its way to the UK.

Phil
