Mike,
        I found that too. I attached a number of lines to the cockpit
overhead panel (at the rear) and stretched same to the stern bulkhead. It
seemed to reduce the gap to about 3/16. I cleco-ed the result and
retightened the day I attached the top. There was some flexibility there. I
presumed the 'rigger's angle of incidence' was controllable by means of the
flying stab.
