already devoted to this topic, may I suggest that those familiar with
the concept of a firewall and who wish to benefit from the protection
they offer, download and install the free firewall from Zonelabs.

I think these products are probably more suitable to 'always on'
connections, like broadband internet, as opposed to dial up.
This won't offer protection against viruses, though I haven't been
infected in the (nearly) five years, I've been online 24/7.
As has been said, virus postings are a bit like the things they
describe, they spread rapidly, can cause frustration, and they distract
and consume bandwidth.
