Aileron length

Hello everyone!

It's been quite a while since I've stopped in to say "hi". It's been a
very busy summer/fall with a lot of business travel (both U.S. and
Europe) and flight lessons while at home. The good news is I easily
passed my written and am mere weeks away from my checkride. I'm quite
happy at that with 45 hours in the logbook. Now if the weather will
cooperate for a few more weeks so I can have a decent day for the
checkride.

The bad news is we've not worked on our Europa much the last few
months. But, with crummy weather upon us here in Wisconsin, it's time
to really get busy. So, today I was going to trim the wing for the
ailerons and mount them up. The problem is the ailerons are too long,
by almost 1/4". The root end has the bolt end flush with the end of the
aileron closeout, and the tip end has about 1/2" of depth on the
closeout. My first thought is to simply trim the tip of the aileron
until it fits, but that wouldn't leave much of a lip on the closeout
area. I don't think it will be a problem, but I just wanted to confer
with the group to see what else may work. The manual is vague in this
area of fitting the aileron to the wing, and I've been stalling here
unsure of how to proceed. It's easy to trim off material, but a lot
harder to put it back!

Thanks for the help!
