Trevor Jackson (G-BWKG) (I don't think he is on the forum) used two pieces
of aluminium angle hinged in the middle with a length of light rubber
bungee to hold the strut in the over-centre position when the canopy was
open. The only disadvantage was that you had to lift the weight of the
canopy to open it, but its not heavy, and in addition to light weight it
had the further advantage of not distorting the canopy when closed, so that
there was no problem with getting the back corner fully home or getting the
shoot bolt in the hole. Seemed a good idea to me.
