Subject: Effect of Propeller Blades on Engine Cooling
To All:
Of late, there has been an interesting dialog on the Jabiru builders net
(jabirubuilders@egroups.com) regarding the effect that propeller design has on
engine cooling. Tony Krzyzewski (Hello, Tony) seems to be one of the more active
participants in that dialog. In part, much of that discussion has focused
on the effect that the design of a given propeller, particularly the
airfoil/chord
that falls within the propeller arc encompassing the cowling air inlets,
can have on engine temperatures. Of particular interest to me was a recent
discussion
of the relative cooling benefits derived from blades with larger chords
(e.g. wood props such as the Prince) vs. props with much narrower chords (e.g.
Warp Drive, Ivo, Airmaster, etc.). While I lack the engineering expertise to
fully understand all aspects of those discussions, I've found them to be of
considerable interest and very enlightening. Certainly, they are excellent "food
for thought" (a Colonial expression, yes, Graham?).
In any event, perhaps Tony would be amenable to summarizing the Jabiru
Builders
group's discussions on this subject for the benefit of his many friends
here in the Europa community?
I would add, at risk of repeating what I believe I have already read in
some
previous communication within our group, that anyone contemplating the
installation
of a Jabiru engine might find that subscribing to the Jabiru Builders
net to be of some value/interest.
