in my opinion the mainfold gauge is pretty irrelevant with a vp prop,
if you had a cs prop it would be different.

RPM is still a true indicator of power at any specific throttle setting

 a fuel flow computer is much more interesting, that will
show you true peak economy.

Then you can see if 4500 rpm and full throttle is better than 5000 rpm and
75% throttle

I did have a mandifold gauge in mine but threw it out
and replaced it with a fuel flow computer instead.
