IIRC, by swapping tanks, you mean going to the reserve which is a small
reservoir below the level of the main which can be fed from the main?

If so, perhaps, as you suspect, you are getting heat dumped into the
fuel and, via the return, this warms the temperature of the fuel in the
tank. But, there might be insufficient mixing to cause this to be a
problem with the fuel right at the bottom and when you switch, you pick
up the cooler fuel that does not vaporise so easily.

Finally, you use up all of this cool fuel. The cooler which which went
back through the return reduced the temp of the fuel in the tank so, you
now have to waqrm that up also and finally, the problem recurs. This
time, all of the fuel in the tank is warm and it matters not where you
take it from.

Just a guess.
