Fixing the Aileron drive pin at the correct position......
While this kink is directed toward Classic wing construction, it may
have useful adjuncts to other wing aileron construction. It refers to
installong the aileron drive pin on the inboard end of each aileron,
and applies to Classic manual page 8-5, figure 9, entitled "Section
through A2 plate in root end". A somilar section should pertain to XS
wings......
The diagram gives centre-to-extremity distances for the purpose of
siting the 1/4" bolt serving as the 'pin'. There are three:
bolt-centre-to-aileron-flange-edge (35mm), same-to-aileron-
nose (45mm), and same-to-top-of-skin (7/8"). All of these can be
transcribed as circles on a 1/16" sheet of transparent plastic, whose
centre point can then be drilled to 0.250" to accomodate the 1/4" bolt.
One has then only to position bolt with disc wherever these three
dimensions apply to find and hold the bolt position after floxing. It
also helps to site and cut the cloth holes for subsequent plies over the
bolt.
