I used a piece of blue foam that I shaped to size and then wrapped the whole
thing in cling wrap.  It slid out easily.

This not a probelm in practice.  The metal bushes in the spar, along with
the ones in the cockpit module are slightly proud of the surface, the
combined effect is to space the spar out a tiny bit from the back of the
cockpit module.

I removed everything, it didn't take long and it makes the job easier.

The fuel selector valve mounts directly to the cockpit module.  You will
find a hard point embedded in the glass.  The wing pin bushes are put in to
the thinner ply supplied.
