Cheers:
On my 'classic' (foam) wings, the extreme tip (on end of spars), there
is built-in a squarish 'drawer', about 3-1/2 x 8in and right through the
tip to 1-1/2in into the spar. I formed it by bandsawing through the foam
form at 90deg to the base and after allowing some sanding to reduce its
size, laying up the 'drawer' sides and the hoile sides, and around the
bottom of the hole. The drawer was then reinserted and the tip attached
and layed up. Then the outline of the drawer was cut asnd the drawer
removed, leaving a large central hole for 12vdc power, antennas, and
video base. The nav/anti-coll light controller was inserted and the
drawer carved to accept nav/a-c light base. The drawer is kept in place
by 4 #8-32 mach. screws and built-in nuts (along the lines of the
aileron inspection covers at mid-wing).
This arrangement allows for quick-disconnect of lights, video equip. or
any other frippery and insertion of a matching support box. All layups
were minimum 4 plies, something akin to the "wheel chock" of early fame
so I am hoping for a sturdy support point at each tip.
Anyway, thass my take on it.
