Shielding is still important for mic/tel leads to prevent interference and
feedback howl on transmit. This is particularly the case for the mic leads
where you should limit their exposure to outside influences as much as
possible. If you are not enclosing the jacks inside an alloy box the
shielding should be continued as close to the back of the sockets as
possible. As the sockets are not very far from the VHF aerial this may not
be enough to prevent feedback howl. If using a box the mic signal ground
should still be insulated from the aircraft ground/shielding (in this case
the alloy box). Either use insulated washers or cut out a slightly oversize
hole in the box and Redux over a small piece of sheet 'bid' befor e
redrilling for the socket.
