The 912 IS susceptible to carb icing in some types of aircraft, for
instance rag wing microlights where the engine is not cowled.

The Europa installation effectively uses warm air at all times so has not
been susceptible. However, since more power is available in hot/high
conditions by using a "Cold Air Box" the possibility returns that icing may
occur, although again the factory cold air box has not shown any
susceptibility. Possibly because the carb bodies are warmed by in cowling
engine heat. There have been some reports of icing during start up. Jim?

Those of us designing our own cold air systems would be well advised to fit
carb heat systems especially if cowling design is changed.

Graham
