Mod 46 isn't all that painful. Certainly better than the possibility of
having to land your airplane using the trimmer for pitch control. This is
what a German builder did, (successfully) ; the CS 10 end cap had cracked
around the central boss. That and one other similar occurance are the
reason for the mod.
I did the mod on GK Whip this weekend. 5 or 6 hours (in the cold dark
hangar) . There was no sign of cracking or distress. IP has 140 hours or
so.
These mods are a nuisance but really Europa have no choice do they? At
least they don't make us pay when there is any question of a design fault.
Unlike a certain American company whose customers were asked for $4000 for
a new tailplane, to make the airplane safe to land.
