If you don't want to undo the ferrules, or split a nylon tube, then there is
nylon spiral enclosure readily available ( for electric cables) which can be
threaded on, and will peform similarly. But there will always be hefty
sideways forces however low the friction, so it had better be well (sic)
attached.
