We have made the decision to fit the Pitot on the wing, the fin mounted one
works fine, until you are getting down to stall speeds with plenty of power on,
IOW going for a marginal go round. Then it seems to become just a bit
unpredictable, probably because prop wash starts to affect it.
We have run a 1/4 inch OD nylon tube along the bottom inside corner of the flap
shroud, which will enter the fuselage just behind and below the drag pin and
clip into a push fit coupler. It will have to be manually connected but I don't
think that's a problem. Better to have no ASI than a deceiving one, (if you
forget). When I learnt to fly I was required to demonstrate that I could fly
safely without an ASI.
The fin Pitot will be used for the tank breather, then it won't dribble fuel
over the registration letters on hot days :-).
My mental gyros have been somewhat toppled by the discussion about Glass
Cockpit, nonetheless I'm encouraged by the response.
I guess I was wrong about using a laptop but a simpler microprocessor without
hard or floppy disc must be viable.
Graham
