Airfoil Templates

Subject: Airfoil Templates

Obviously, I'm somewhat behind reading my "mail," and these remarks may be
grossly dated. That having been said, as regards airfoil templates for
those of us with foam-core wings.....can we not assume that the factory
templates that were used in the hot-wire process were CAD-generated, and
should, as a result, be very accurate representations of the designed
CAD-generated airfoil. Yes? Therefore, while there may be some wire-lag
disfigurement of the central areas of each core, the extreme ends of each
core are/should-be "reasonably" accurate duplications of the designed
airfoil AT THOSE PARTICULAR STATIONS? Yes, again? If we agree to this
point, I would think that using the root and/or tip of each respective core
as a "male" pattern for producing one's own series of "female" templates
would provide the desired "accurate" templates for use during final
countouring of the wing AT THOSE PARTICULAR STATIONS? Given, each template
might require some very minor trimming as to allow for the thickness of the
required skins in each of those areas. I'm sure there is probably something
"very much in error" with the preceeding logic, and can't wait to hear where
I have erred. As Bob Berube will be happy to confirm, I've not arrived at
this stage of construction yet, but.....still cannot help "thinking ahead,"
however risky that might be! I must add that I personally am not sure how
much of an issue this really is? We are building a "homebuilt," right?
Should add that I find this forum to be of great benefit, although
there is sometimes a bit too much "chit chat" to suit my fancy. Don't
really need any more enemies around the world than I've perhaps already
made, and I tend to be too much of a "chit chatter" myself, but may I be so
bold as to suggest that we all reconsider the propriety of our use of this
forum as a substitute for a perhaps more appropriate "person-to-person"
E-mail? Do want to thank the many of you who are contributing daily to my
effort to "Fly Europa" (as in "homebuilt," not "airline"). Sincerely, many
thanks to you all. Looking forward to getting personally aquainted with
many of you in the not too distant future. Please don't be too hard on me
as I'm really quite a "proper chap."
