In the most recent (June) edition of Kitplanes magazine, there was an
article written about all the experimental planes that competed in pylon
racing at the world famous Reno Air Races. The article discusses all the
modifications that were done to improve speed. Regarding "gap seals", the
author wrote............"The jury seems to be out on gap seals and taping.
In some cases, they add a few knots; in others they make no difference.
The biggest improvement seems to come from sealing the large gaps from the
wing to the flaps and ailerons. Gap seals are cheap, and tape is cheaper,
so the cost per mph looks good"
