At high altitudes how quickly the L/D deteriorates with airspeed becomes very important. Very high altitudes require speed to keep from stalling since the range between cruise and stall becomes less - it's "coffin corner." "Floater" gliders don't work well in a wave. They drag down too quickly with increased speed. A very good L/D at cruise (efficiency) makes for a great wave machine. The Europa ought to be a very fine machine at very high altitudes! :) Rob Europa motorglider builder A162 |
